At our church we use Evangelism Explosion as our primary means of outreach. The E.E. ministry is an equipping ministry, which is used to teach our members and others who are interested how to share their faith. Ideally this is done by a trainer who trains two people, and then each one that is trained will train two more individuals. During the weeks of training, evangelism is caught rather than necessarily taught by the trainee as the trainer models the ways of being an effective witness. It is vital that we seek to equip people to be soul winners rather than only winning souls for Jesus Christ.
Our Lord Jesus gave us the command to “follow me and I will make you fishers of men” in Matthew 4:19. Our Lord’s last command was to “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit”, Matthew 28:19. The words of Jesus Christ give our people a way to be obedient by being equipped to fulfill the Great Commission. E.E. is not only an equipping ministry, but it disciples believers and also brings people to a personal relationship with God through His Son. There is absolutely no way of describing the joy of leading someone to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ! E.E. can and has been used in many areas of outreach. Teams not only visit church visitors, they go door-to-door and seek people to talk with in many public places. The list of places would also include parking lots, nursing homes, malls, and wherever people go and recreate or simply spend time. In many of these places we may only have time to pass out gospel tracts.
